About Our Chapter

Come join us. We are here to serve our members and learn from each others experiences. Please let us know how we can assist you!

The South King County Human Resource Association (SKCHRA) was established in July 1985 by a small group of individuals whose job responsibilities included dealing with personnel and organizational related issues. They were seeking the insight and experience of other "Personnel" Managers who were knowledgeable about labor/employee relations and employment practices. Many of the members were from small manufacturing plants that were springing up in the south county area. Since a lot of our members continue to be drawn from small to mid-sized employers, our chapter feels especially well equipped to deal with the special challenges they face. Over the years SKCHRA has grown to over 100 members that now represent a much broader spectrum of businesses from small to large, including service industries, technology, both public and private entities, plus non-profit organizations and schools. The combined experience of the current Board members represents well over 100 years of Human Resources experience.

You will find our small chapter to be a very friendly. Some members elect to attend our meetings simply because they feel lost in much larger groups.

What Does It Cost to Join SKCHRA?

SHRM is the umbrella organization for HR professionals worldwide. Our chapter is an affiliate of SHRM. In order to operate, SHRM provides us with a very small portion of the annual membership dues paid to belong to SHRM. You must be a member of SHRM to join the SKCHRA. There are no additional chapter dues. While some chapters elect to have additional annual membership dues, the South King County Chapter has elected to operate solely on the funds provided by SHRM, plus the registration fees collected at chapter meetings or events to cover the costs of the facilities being utilized. The SKCHRA Board of Directors guides the chapter on an entirely volunteer basis.

Why Join Our Chapter?

Quite simply, we rely on SHRM members to designate affiliation with our chapter in order to remain operational. Your “Chapter Designation” is what triggers SHRM to send a very small portion of your annual SHRM dues to us to support our programs. This will allow us to continue offering you conveniently located meetings with varying meeting times to suit your busy schedule.

By designating your affiliation with SKCHRA you will begin to receive our monthly newsletter. This is our primary vehicle for keeping you apprised of upcoming chapter meetings and events plus options for preparing for the PHR/SPHR or GPHR exam. Our meetings will offer you the opportunity to network with HR professionals, expand your knowledge and receive recertification credits for maintaining your professional designation. We also offer a scholarship fund as part of our commitment to advance the profession. You may also participate in our exclusive Meal Deal Card, offering the convenience of expedited registration at meetings at a slight cost savings, plus the camaraderie of a group of seasoned HR professionals willing to share their experience and knowledge. Plus you obtain all the resources available through SHRM www.shrm.org.
